Seattle Mariners Tickets
The Seattle Mariners are looking for some kind of jump start or silver lining to build off of what’s been a pretty lean decade. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2001, but they saw teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland A’s make the jump from dweller cellars to contenders. After trading away their most popular player in Ichiro Suzuki and clearing out some other players in the off season the M’s think it’s time for their younger players to step up, produce and lead this team. Guys like Justin Smoak, Dustin Ackley and recent newcomers Michael Morse and Kendry Morales need to give ace pitcher Felix Hernandez some room to work with. So come check out Safeco Field this summer as it is going to be the place to be.
Seattle Mariners History
The Seattle Mariners were enfranchised in 1977. The Mariners played their first game on April 6, 1977 when just over 57,000 people jammed into the Kingdom to witness their first game. Hitter Juan Bernhard hit the franchises first home. The name “Mariners” originates from the prominence of the marine culture in the city of Seattle. They won their first division championship in 1995 behind Ken Griffey Jr. and flamethrower Randy Johnson by defeating the New York Yankees in a thrilling five game Division Series over the New York Yankees. The game winning hit in that decisive Game 5 was by Edgar Martinez who drove home Ken Griffey Jr, in the 11th inning. This moment has become iconic in the teams history. Another wave of success came in 2001, when the team won 116 games in a single season. This is the American League record for most wins in a single season, although they were defeated in the playoffs by the New York Yankees it is till this day the most successful season the team has had.
The team plays their games in beautiful Safeco Field, which opened July 15, 1999.
