Sporting Kansas City Tickets
The American professional soccer club from Kansas City, Kansas, known as Sporting kansas City competes in the MLS as one of the ten charter clubs of the league. The team, is still often known under their original name, the Kansas City Wizards, however, they changed to Sporting Kansas City in 2010 when they moved to their new stadium at Livestrong Sporting Park in downtown Kansas City. The new park is considered one of the most luxurious soccer stadiums in the United States and was created to bring a great deal of support to the city and to the team.
During their time as a team, the Kansas City Sporting, has had several major accomplishments including a MLS Cup win and a win in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have also won the MLS Supporters’ Shield, which the team won in 2000. In the year 2005, Sporting Kansas City moved from the Western to the Eastern conference. After a slow start in their new conference, they would finish of the 2005 season on a winning record, and would eventually go on to be the top team in the Eastern conference.
After the 2006 season, the team was sold by Lamar Hunt to OnGoal, LLC; a six-man ownership led by Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig; co-founders of Cerner Corporation. The team is currently under the leadership of head coach Peter Vermes; also a former player with club. Peter Vermes was one of the club’s most successful players, along with players such as Scott Sealy, Josh Wolff and Gary Glasgow, who all wore the Kansas City uniforms.
During their time as a club they have won both the MLS Western and Eastern Conference; a record-breaking feat for teams in the league. They have also had success in numerous international tournaments including the SuperLiga and CONCACAF. With their success and their new branding from 2010, Sporting Kansas City has been growing and expanding as the team continues to bring recognition to the city of Kansas City as one of their most popular and successful professional sports teams.
