The cardinals were initially named St Louis Brown Stockings and were founded by the American association in 1882. Brown Stockings joined the National League in 1892 and played with that name for 8 years. In 1900 the Brown Stockings changed their name to St Louis Cardinals. St. Louis Cardinals stadium is the Busch Stadium, although it has not always been the team’s stadium. The cardinals started playing in the Busch Stadium in 2006. The current Busch Stadium was constructed partly on top of the site of Busch Memorial Stadium. This team has played as St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Browns and as St. Louis Brown Stockings. Overall they have played 11 World Championships, 22 Pennants, and 24 Playoff Appearances. The Cardinals won the 2011 National League Wild Card after being down 10 1⁄2 games to the Atlanta Braves. The cardinals had a record of 23-9 in the final 32 games of the season. St Louis Cardinals had only 83 victories during the 2006 regular season. The team became the only team in nation with the fewest total victories, 83 victories, to win the World Series.
