Tennessee Titans Tickets
The Tennessee Titans are a professional football team in the National Football League. The team is located in Nashville, Tennessee and play their home games at LP Field. LP Field has a capacity of 69,143 and opened in 1999. The team plays in the AFC South division and is currently coached by Mike Munchak. The Titans were established in 1959 as the Houston Oilers before moving to Nashville in 1997. The team changed their name from the Oilers to the Titans for the start of the 1999 season.
The franchise has featured 16 different coaches through their more than 50 year history, starting with Lou Rymkus. Three different coaches have won Coach of the Year honors while coaching the team including Rymkus, Wally Lemm in 1961, and Hall of Fame coach Sid Gillman. Jeff Fisher, who coached the team through the move from Houston to Tennessee, is the winningest coach in team history, compiling a 142-120 record in his tenure as coach in addition to a 5-6 record in the playoffs. The team has made 21 appearances in the playoffs, including a stretch from 1987 through 1993 where they made the playoffs every year. The team most recently made the playoffs in 2008. The team has won nine division championships, most recently in 2008. The team won the 1999 AFC championship, and the team won two AFL Championships; however, the team has never won a Super Bowl.
Seven former Titans have been inducted into the Hall of Fame: Elvin Bethea, George Blanda, Earl Campbell, Ken Houston, Bruce Matthews, Warren Moon, and Mike Munchak. All of those players with the exception of Ken Houston have had their numbers retired by the team. In the team’s Hall of Fame, in addition to those inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, players such as Eddie George and Steve McNair as well as Owner and founder Bud Adams find themselves honored.
The Titans have two main rivals, interdivision foes the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. In their matchups against the Texans, due to the Titans formerly being in Houston, it creates an even more intense rivalry. The Titans lead the series 14-6; however, one of the most memorable events in recent history took place during one matchup when Cortland Finnegan of the Titans and Andre Johnson of the Texans were tangled up in a fistfight. The Titans rivalry against the Colts has cooled off a bit since the early part of the 21st century; however, these annual matchups have always been one of the best games of the season for each of these teams.
