U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships Tickets
The annual event known as the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships, is one of the most unique professional tennis tournaments in the ATP Tour today. The event, which debuted back in 1910 is the last remaining ATP Tour-level tournament in the United States that is still played on clay courts. While many tournaments in the United States have since moved to hard court options, the tournament has withheld its presence as a clay court option, a choice that first started because clay courts were more economical to install. However, over time it became important for the tournament to continue to be played on clay courts so the playing surface has stayed. This has made it a favorite among fans who usually have to watch international play in order to see events on clay.
The clay court setup of this tournament makes the ball bounce differently than on hard courts, which to many, makes the matches more interesting and less predictable. Throughout its more than 100 year history, the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships have been held at a number of different venues from Atlanta, Georgia to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Ponte Verda Beach Florida. However, it is currently held in Houston, Texas at the River Oaks Country Club outside the city.
This men’s only week long tennis event is known for bringing in some of the fieriest competitors both in singles and doubles play as many want to take on the challenge of playing on clay courts. The tournament is typically held in mid April, and before many of the big summer tournaments that round out the traditional tennis season. During its history, the tournament is known for having a diverse selection of winners as many fall to the challenge of the clay court. However, the tournament is known by many as being a favorite for U.S. tennis legend, Andy Roddick who has won, or made it to the finals more than any other modern player. With a history like this and the excitement offered by the clay courts, it is easy to see why year after year the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships is one of the most watched tournaments in all of men’s tennis.
