The Arnold Palmer Invitational in an annual PGA Tour gold tournament that is held in Bay Hill Florida. The tournament was first established in 1966 and moved to the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in 1979; a golf resort owned by golfer Arnold Palmer. The event was designed to be a replacement to the Florida Citrus Open Invitational and since it was established decades ago it has remained one of the top tournaments in professional golf. Today, the invitational is held every March usually near the end of the month.
One of the many things that makes the Arnold Palmer Invitational such a unique event is its exclusivity. There is a very restricted field of players, and only the first 80 players on the previous year’s money list are guaranteed invites to the tournament. This tournament is one of just five tournaments on the PGA Tour that is allowed to hold this “invitation status.” Typically the field of players is only at 120 players. The tournament is held on the Bay Hill Club’s premier golf course which is 7,381 yards in total length. The course has a par of 72. The players who participate in this invitational tournament will play in stroke play. As of current reports, the total prize fund for the tournament is around $6 million dollars.
As of 2012, Tiger Woods has won the tournament more than any other golfer. The 2012 event marked his seventh win, when the golfer game in at 13 under par to get the victory. While other men have won the tournament more than once, no one has won it more than two times. During the history of this event, there has not only been a number of wins by famed golfer Tiger Woods, but a number of exciting matches that have gone down in history as being some of the most intense in the game. With a number of close tournaments and sudden death play offs, fans always have been able to expect a great deal of excitement from this Florida tournament.
