Baltimore Grand Prix Tickets
As one of the latest additions to the street circuit of the IndyCar Series, the Baltimore Grand Prix has very little history to speak of. However, in its short time as a race, which was first started in 2011, this IndyCar event has still managed to make its mart on the sport. The Baltimore Grand Prix is an IndyCar Series and an American Le Mans Series race that debuted on September 4th of 2011. The race is held on a street circuit in Baltimore Maryland in the popular Inner Harbor area in the downtown area of the city.
The event came from a deal with Baltimore Racing Development, IndyCar and the City of Baltimore. After great planning to organize the first race, the city terminated the contract at the end of 2011. With the future of the Baltimore Grand Prix uncertain, the city of Baltimore made an announcement on February 15, 2012 regarding the future of the event. They had signed a new five year agreement with Downforce Racing to manage the Baltimore Grand Prix and to hold the even in the same downtown area of the city.
The Inner Harbor circuit featured in the Baltimore Grand Prix is a total of 2.04 miles or 3.28 km in total distance. The course starts near the intersection of Pratt Street and Sharp Street, one of the most prominent intersections in the city. The course features a fairly straightforward route, however, it does have a hairpin turn and several other turns that provide challenges for drivers. The course was designed to be scenic and travel through some of the tree-lined streets of the city and near some of the city’s biggest landmarks including the Baltimore Convention Center and Camden Yards.
The entire course is held on asphalt or concrete and included 75 laps around the course. In the inaugural running of the race, racer Will Power pulled away with the top spot, averaging speeds of 75 mph and finishing the course in just over two hours. While the success of the first event seems to show what the future successes of the race will hold, there is no telling what racing fans can expect with the future of this event.
