Calgary Flames History
The Calgary Flames were founded in 1972. The team made the playoffs in six of eight seasons in Atlanta. On May 21, 1980, the team moved to Calgary. With 131 points, the Flames qualified for the playoffs in their first season in Calgary with a 39–27–14 record. The team won their first two playoff series over the Chicago Black Hawks and Philadelphia Flyers in Calgary. The Flames finished second in Symthe 1986 season with a 40–31–9 record. They defeated the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs. The Flames went on to the Campbell Conference Finals, where they defeated the St. Louis Blues in another seven-game series. The flames rounded up 1986–87 season, with 46–31–3 record, which placed them at number three in NHL behind the Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers. The Flames recorded their first 100-point season in 1987–88, winning the Presidents' Trophy for having the league's best record and ending the Oilers' six-year reign atop the Smythe Division. In 1988–89, the team won their second consecutive Presidents' Trophy with a franchise record 117 points. Since the team's establishment, they have won 3 conference championships, 2 presidents' trophies and 1 Stanley Cup. The team play their home games at Scotiabank Saddledome.
