California Indy 400 Tickets
The California Indy 400 is a tentative name for an Indy Racing League event that often falls under the name of the Toyota Indy 400 or the INDYCAR World Championships, the latest tentative name for the event. No matter what name fans decide to call it, this event is an Indy Racing League IndyCar Series, USAC and CART Champ Car race that is held in California. Unlike many Indy events, this particular race is not an annual occurrence. It was held from 1970 until 1980 every year and then again from 1997 to 2005. After a few year break the event is slotted to start up again in 2012 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The event was previously a 500 mile event but was changed for a few years to a 400 distance, however, when reinstated in 2012 it was announced that the event would once again be 500 miles.
This event has had a great deal of history that has made it both a unique and popular Indy race. During the race’s history it has been held at different tracks, been different lengths and has had corporate sponsors, Marlboro, Toyota, Yahama and King Taco. The event was once the season finale for the CART series of races back when it was called the Marlboro 500, however now the race will be held in the fall.
This particular event is not only well-known for the many changes it has gone through over the years, but it has other significant Indy car history as well. Two world closed course speed records were establishes in qualifying for this event. The first occurred with the inaugural race event which took place in 1997 and it happened again in 2000 at this particular event. Additional records have been set at this event as well. The 2003 Indy Car race of this event was recorded as the fastest circuit race ever in motor sport history. The even had an average speed of 207 mph over 400 miles.
With a history such as this it is easy to see why the California Indy is one of the most talked about races in the sport. It also makes it one of the most viewed races in Indy as well, meaning it is a must see for fans of this unique brand of car racing
