They Bears are one of the oldest and most established teams in the NFL today and their history dates all the way back to 1919 where they were an independent team for a year before joining the National Football League in 1920. As one of the founding teams of the NFL, the Bears have long been regarded as one of the most iconic professional sports teams of today. They were originally based in Decatur, Illinois for two years before heading to Chicago in 1921. Along with the Arizona Cardinals, they are the only remaining Franchises from the founding of the NFL.
During this long history, The Bears have found themselves with the NFL record for most members inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame; a nod to their long history of producing successful professional players. They have had 27 members inducted into the Hall of Fame and retired more numbers than any other organization with 13 retired jerseys. They also hold the record for most regular season wins and overall victories; reaching their 700th win in 2010.
They are known for not only being one of the most watched teams in the NFL today but for their longstanding rivalry with fellow midwest team the Green Bay Packers. During this historic rivalry the team has played nearly 190 times. However, in addition to exciting games against the Packers the Bears are known for hosting exciting home games at their home stadium at Chicago’s Soldier Field. The home games have been held at this iconic stadium since 1971 and although it was recently renovated and modernized it is still considered to be one of the most historic and important structures in the city of Chicago.
During these home games fans of the franchise can see the Bears take the field in their iconic navy and orange uniforms, hear their fight song “Bear Down, Chicago Bears” and of course see their mascot Staley Da Bear during all of their home match ups.
