They signed free agent Nick Swisher in the off season & they are hoping he drives in young stalwarts like Jason Kipnis, Drew Stubbs & Asdrubal Cabrera. Cleveland History
The Cleveland Indians can trace its roots all the way back to 1900. Napoleon Lajoie was the first shining star of the team, who was one of the greatest hitters of the history. Though the Indians won only one pennant in his era, Lajoie was easily a high profile and always in the public eye. So, team changed its name to Naps but he departed in 1914. Through a newspaper contest, fans renamed the team "Indians" in honor of the "Miracle" run that Boston's Braves made to that year's world championship. This team is also referred as "Tribe" and the "Wahoos," the latter being a reference to their logo, Chief Wahoo. And their mascot is called Slider. The Cleveland Indians won the World Series championship in 1920 but had to face the death of Ray Chapman, who collapsed on the home plate after getting a hit direct on the head. Progressive Field has outstanding fan-friendly facility that was created specifically for Cleveland. The Cleveland Indians had won another world series in 1948 and became a record setting pennant winning team in 1954. The Indians have won seven AL Central titles, mostly in the division.
