The 2002–03 season started with Columbus putting up a 7–5–1–1 record after the first 14 games. Marc Denis was named starting goalie; he played a franchise-record 77 games that season and set a League record with 4,511 minutes played in 2002–03 season. The Blue Jackets finished the following season with 62 points, which brought them ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks. The performance of the team improved in 2005-06 season. They had the best overtime record in the NHL (14–4) and finished the season with franchise records for wins (35) and points (74). This record placed them at third place for the first time behind the Detroit and the Nashville in the central division. On December 10, 2006, the Blue Jackets scored a team-record five power-play goals in a 6–2 win over the Ottawa Senators. The team got their best start in the team's history in 2007-08 season. On April 8, 2009, the Columbus Blue Jackets secured the first Stanley Cup Playoff berth in the franchise's eight-year history. They defeated the Chicago Blackhawks with 4-3. The team play their home games at Nationwide Arena.
