Crown Royal 400 Tickets
The Crown Royal 400, known primarily by fans as the Brickyard 400 may have one of the most interesting naming stories in the history of the sport of NASCAR. The former race title sponsor of the event, Crown Royal, named the race the Capital City 400 after the winner of an essay contest that took place during the Daytona Speedweek. The event used to give the name to the now Capital City 400 event, but starting in 2012 the company moved their contest to help people rename the Brickyard 400. The essay contest is only for military veterans and members and helps bring greater attention not only to the sport of NASCAR but to the servicemen and women in the United States as well.
Since 2012 will be the first year that the Crown Royal will take place at the Brickyard venue in Speedway, Indiana, many are still referring to the event as the Brickyard 400 until the first new official name as been decided. Annually this event, which is a 400 mile race and part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup challenge is held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. When the even first took place in 1994 it garnered a great deal of attention as it was the only other event besides the Indianapolis 500 to ever be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916.
However, from the very first annual event, in which it became the most attended NASCAR race in history, the Crown Royal 400 has become one of the most watched events in the sport. Currently this major NASCAR race has the second-highest purse in the sport, second only to the Daytona 500; making it a favorite among drivers. The high amount of publicity surrounding this event is what caused Crown Royal to choose the race for their nation-wide military focused contest. The race track is given the nickname the “Brickyard” as the course was once entirely brick and the track has left a one-yard strip of brick around the start/finish line to pay homage to the race. With millions of eyes on the Crown Royal 400 not only to see who wins the annual race but what military personnel will win the contest that goes along with the race, there is no denying that this event is a ‘must see’ for NASCAR fans around the world.
