The Crown Royal Brickyard 400, or as it is more formally known, the Crown Royal Presents the “Your Heros Name Here” 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com, is an annual NASCAR Sprint Cups point race. The race has actually had a few different names, including the Allstate 400, which is one of its most famous names. Crown Royal is currently the naming sponsor and chose the name to promote the company’s “Your Name Here” program to honor U.S. military service men and women, and Big Machine Records became the presenting sponsor in 2011.
The 400 mile event, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana may have one of the longest current names in the sport but is often just known as the Brickyard 400. The name Brickyard is used because the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was once paved in brick in the early 1900s. To pay homage to the early days of the track, there is a one yard strip of brick that remains exposed at the start and finish line, leading to the brick reference. The race is actually part of a larger event known as the Super Weekend at the Brickyard, which has races for the Nationwide Series and Grand Am in addition to the Sprint Cup Series.
This particular event is one of the most watched in NASCAR because it is one of the most significant race additions ever added the NASCAR Spring Cup. When the event was introduced in 1994, it became the first race other than the famed Indianapolis 500 to take place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916.
