The Denver Broncos are a professional football team in the National Football League. The team is located in Denver, Colorado and play their home games at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Sports Authority Field at Mile High has a capacity of 76,125 and opened in 2001. The team plays in the AFC West division and is currently coached by John Fox. The team was established in 1960 as one of the seminal members of the AFL before the AFL-NFL Merger of 1970.
The team has featured 14 different head coaches during their more than 50 year tenure. Four different coaches were named Coach of the Year: Jack Faulkner, John Ralston, Red Miller, and Dan Reeves, who won the award in three different years. Mike Shanahan leads the franchise in wins, compiling a 138-86 record to go along with an 8-5 record in the playoffs. The team has made 18 playoff appearances, most recently in 2011. Six former Broncos are enshrined in the Hall of Fame: Willie Brown, Tony Dorsett, John Elway, Gary Zimmerman, Floyd Little, and Shannon Sharpe. The Broncos have retired the numbers of three players: Elway, Floyd Little, and Frank Tripucka, whose number was reinstated for Peyton Manning. Two Broncos have won the MVP Award: John Elway in 1987 and Terrell Davis in 1998.
The Broncos have a number of rivalry games including games against each of their division foes as well as games against the New England Patriots, and the Cleveland Browns. Against the Kansas City Chiefs, the teams have faced off more than 100 times with the Chiefs leading the series 55-47. The Broncos-Raiders rivalry is one of the most hotly contested rivalries as they have played some of the most memorable games on record. The Raiders lead the series 59-43-2. The Broncos biggest intraconference rivalry game is against the Cleveland Browns. While the Broncos lead the series 21-5, they have played a number of memorable games as they played in three out of four consecutive AFC Championship games.
