Based out of Detroit, Michigan, the Lions are one of the most popular and established teams in the NFL today. With a history that dates back to 1929, the Lions have been gathering thousands of dedicated fans over the years and are known around the country for having some of the most loyal fans in the league. They have been members of the NFC North division since 2002. During their time as a team they have won four NFL Championships and despite many successful seasons are one of four teams currently in the NFL who have yet to qualify for a Super Bowl. However, despite some struggles they are still known throughout the league for having some of the most dedicated fans in all of football. Yearly the team is known to have around 500,000 fans in attendance for their home games, even in seasons where they haven’t had winning records.
This dedication can be seen in the team’s home games played at Ford Field in downtown Detroit, Michigan. The massive stadium can expand to hold more than 70,000 fans and has been hosting home Lions games since 2002. These games feature tens of thousands of roaring fans decked out in the team’s home colors of Honolulu blue, silver and black. During these games visitors can also see the team’s mascot Roary the lion and hear their fight son “Gridiron Heroes.” Those in the Detroit, Michigan area who are Lions fans but aren’t looking to attend home games, can hear all of the Lions news and game coverage from the Detroit Lions Radio Network; and expansive local radio station dedicated to the NFL team.
The team, throughout its history has had a number of Pro Football Hall of Fame members including both Barry Sanders and Charlie Sanders, Dick Lane, Dick LeBeau, Lou Creekmur and more. The team has also retired six different jerseys paying homage to some of the great players that have come through the organization. Today fans can see big names like Matt Stafford, the team’s starting quarterback and one of the league’s most respected players leading the Detroit Lions to another season in the NFL.
