The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association. The team is located in Oakland, California and play their home games in the Oracle Arena. The Oracle Arena has a capacity of 19,596 and was opened in 1966. The team plays in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference and is currently coached by Mark Jackson. The team was founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, and remained there until 1962 when they moved to San Francisco. For the start of the 1971 season, the team changed their name to the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors have made it to the playoffs 28 times, 12 times as the Philadelphia Warriors, 5 as the San Francisco Warriors, and 11 as the Golden State Warriors. The team has won only two division titles when they won in both 1975 and 1976. The team has won six conference titles, most recently in 1975. The team won one Basketball Association of America title and two NBA championships when they won in 1956 and 1975. Thirteen former Warriors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame; however, only Paul Arizin, Joe Fulks, Tom Gola, Neil Johnston, Andy Phillip, Wilt Chamberlain, Nate Thurmond, Rick Barry, and Chris Mullin were inducted for their performance on the Warriors. The team has retired the numbers of six players: Wilt Chamberlain, Tom Meschery, Al Attles, Chris Mullin, Rick Barry, and Nate Thurmond.
Wilt Chamberlain won the MVP Award in 1960, and Rick Barry won the NBA Finals MVP Award in 1975. Six former Warriors have won Rookie of the Year: Woody Sauldsberry, Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry, Jamaal Wilkes, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Webber. Alex Hannum and Don Nelson have both won Coach of the Year while coaching the Warriors in 1964 and 1992 respectively. Thirteen Warriors have been named to multiple All-Star games, and eight players have been named to an All-NBA First Team. Jason Richardson won both the 2002 and the 2003 Slam Dunk Contest. Paul Arizin, Wilt Chamberlain, and Rick Barry all were named NBA All-Star Game MVP.
