The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional football team in the National Football League. The team is located in Jacksonville, Florida and play their home games at EverBank Field. EverBank Field has a capacity of 67,246 and opened in 1995. The team plays in the AFC South division and is currently coached by Mike Mularkey. The team was established in 1995 when they joined the league with the Carolina Panthers as expansion teams.
Through their history, the team has only featured three full-time head coaches, along with Mel Tucker, who served in an interim role for the final five games of the 2011 season. Tom Coughlin was tapped as the franchise’s first ever head coach and led the team to a 68-60 record in the regular season in addition to a 4-4 record in the playoffs. After a 6-10 season, Coughlin was fired and the team hired Jack Del Rio. In Del Rio’s tenure as head coach, he led the team to a 69-73 record with a 1-2 record in the playoffs. The team has made six playoff appearances, including four consecutive trips from 1996 through 1999 and most recently in 2007. The team has won two division championships in consecutive years in 1998 and 1999.
The team does not feature any players in the Hall of Fame and does not have any officially retired numbers; however, the team’s first ever draft pick Tony Boselli, has not had any players since him wear it. In the “Pride of the Jaguars,” the teams Hall of Fame, two players, Boselli and Fred Taylor, and the former owners, Wayne and Delores Weaver, have been inducted thus far. The team has featured five players nominated to the first team All-Pro team. This list includes Boselli, Maurice Jones-Drew, Bryan Barker, Kevin Hardy, and Rashean Mathis.
The Jaguars have two main rivals: the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts. Due to the relative newness of the franchise, a true rivalry between the Titans and the Jaguars has not really flourished; however, they annually play some of the most hotly contested games on their schedules. Since the inception of the AFC South, matchups between the Colts and the Jaguars have been the biggest rivalry within the division. In their 23 matchups, the Colts lead 15-8; however, the Jaguars have won the past three in a row and four of the past five.
