The Los Angeles Kings were formed in 1967. They started their second season well and finished it in the Western Division at second place just one point behind the Flyers. The Kings became the only expansion team that had a winning record at home but lost to Minnesota North Stars in the first round of the playoff. In the following year, they finished fourth in the West Division and made the playoff appearance again. They defeated the Oakland Seals in the first round of the playoffs in seven games but failed to go further in the series. After experiencing success, the team had to undergo the rough phase due to the poor management. Coin collector, Bruce McNall purchased the Kings from Buss in 1987 and acquired the league's best player Wayne Gretzky. The team improved and scored 168 points on 54 goals and 114 assists. Wayne Gretzky won his ninth Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player. In 1989 season, he became the face of the franchise. The team won their first division title in franchise history in the 1990–91 season with a 46-24-10 record. They scored 102 points in the season, which became their second best total in the history of the team. The Kings have won the conference championship in1992-93 season. They play their home games at Staples Center.
