Mercury Insurance Open Tickets
The Mercury Insurance Open, or the Southern California Open as it is often called, is a former WTA Tour affiliated professional tournament sponsored by Mercury Insurance. The women’s only tournament is designed to bring together top names in the sport of tennis and encourage some of the most competitive rounds of play in the sport. With players from all over the world coming together to participate in the tournament, there is no better place to see a selection of some of the best global players.
Annually, the event is held at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California and the main court of the facility allows for thousands of fans to gather and watch the tournament’s top matches. From 2004 to 2007 the tournament was considered to be a Tier 1 event for the WTA Tour. However, since 2007, the tournament has separated from this position as is now classified as one of the WTA Premier tournaments for the tour. The event is typically held in the middle of July as an outdoor event. During its history, which dates back to 1971, the tournament has seen some top name winners both in the singles and doubles rounds of play.
The nationally televised event is held for over a week and not only includes exciting rounds of professional tennis but a variety of other events as well. In addition to the free pre-qualifying round, which is often a favorite for fans, the Mercury Insurance Open brings in some other big events for fans to make the event a complete week of festivities. There is a Kids Day event, a mixed doubles challenge, USTA Member Appreciation Day and Reception, a “Celebrate our Heroes” event and a charity fashion show presented by Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to these events, the Mercury Insurance Open has been a favorite for fans because there are traditionally two days of player autograph signings that are held on site so fans can get up close and personal with their favorite players.
With big events like this throughout the week and days of competitive play between some of the top tennis players in the sport, the Mercury Insurance Open provides a great environment for tennis fans to gather and enjoy the art of the sport of tennis.
