New York Islanders History
The New York Islanders started their journey in 1972. The team did not achieve much success during their initial years. The team shocked the spectators in 1975. The Islanders scored 88 points, which is 32 points more than the previous season and two more than their first two seasons in total. By doing so, they made their first playoffs and defeated their rival New York Rangers as J. P. Parise scored just 11 seconds into the extra session. The team entered into 1975–76 season riding on success. They earned 101 points, which became the fifth-best record in the league. It was the first 100-point season in Islanders history, in only their fourth year of existence. This became the first of four consecutive 100-point seasons, including the first two division titles in franchise history. The team made it to the finals for the first time in their franchise history in 1980-81 season and became the first NHL team to win a Stanley Cup with European players. The team ruled the next two season but missed their chance of winning the Cup. Butch Goring won the Conn Smythe Trophy for his outstanding performance in that season. The team has won 4 conference and 6 division championship with 4 Stanley Cups since inception and is referred as the serious contenders in the league. The team play their home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
