The New York Rangers were established in 1926. After few disappointing seasons, the team finished the 1939–40 season at second place overall. The team failed to survive in the mid 40's and were considered as one of the worst teams of the league. But the Rangers turned the things around in 1970s as they made it to the finals twice unfortunately they lost both the battles. In 1971–72 season, the team again gave the playoff appearance and defeated the defending-champion Canadiens in the first round and the Chicago Blackhawks in the second, but sadly lost to Bruins in the finals. The Rangers stayed competitive through the 1980s and early 1990s, making the playoffs each year. The 1993–94 season was one of the successful season of the team. They won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 54 years. The Rangers clinched the Presidents' Trophy by finishing with the best record in the NHL at 52–24–8, setting a franchise record with 112 points. The Rangers defeated the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals but failed to beat the New Jersey Devils. The New York Rangers have won a conference championship in 1993-94 season and 5 division championships with 4 Stanley Cups since their formation. The team play their home games at Madison Square Garden.
