Pure Michigan 400 Tickets
Held annually at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, Michigan is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the Pure Michigan 400. The event first took place in 1969 but it was not until 1973 that it became a Champ car event and from there the race continued to grow in popularity as it became known for generating some of the fastest speeds during the competition. The race was initially designed to be a 600 mile event, however once the first race was shortened due to bad weather, the shorter distance remained, and the Michigan race stayed as a 400 distance event.
During its decades as an event the Pure Michigan 400 has had several different names and numerous different sponsors and has most notably been sponsored by companies such as Pepsi, GM Goodwrench and Carfax. The event was originally deemed the Yankee 600 and then the Yankee 400 before Champion Spark Plug came on as a sponsor in 1975, The race has also had 26 different winners in its time. The driver with the record for the most victories continues to be David Pearson who won the inaugural event and would eventually go on to win the race five times.
The event is currently held in mid August and has been moved to be held on a Friday in the middle of August to correlated the Gatorade Pole Day event which is also on Friday. The events are set to line up as the Gatorade Pole Day event is an opportunity for fans of the sport to see racers do their pre-game tune-ups. The new change in the timing of the event is expected to bring in more viewers to the already popular race.
The two mile oval track is known for allowing some top speeds to emerge. The race remains a favorite among speed enthusiasts as it is not uncommon for those in the race to approach speeds of 190 MPH or higher on the track. The high speeds, and the huge stadium which is known to hold around a half a million fans make this race one of the most exciting in the series and one that true thrill enthusiasts and lover of the NASCAR sport definitely won’t want to miss.
