Known by many around the city of Tampa Bay simply as “The Bucs” the professional American football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a strong presence in the NFL since they were first established in 1976. They were first established as an expansion team and since then have gone on to find great success within the league. They play their home games at the massive Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida where they play to thousands of adoring fans during all of their home game. This stadium has been the teams home since 1998 and continues to be their home stadium to date.
Although they got off to a rough start in their first few years and lost all of their 26 first games as a team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went on to become the first post-merger expansion team to win a play off game, division title and to play in a conference championship. They accomplished all of this by the 1979 season and from there went on to have a number of successful seasons in the NFL. However, their most successful season to date has been the 2002 season where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went on to be the Super Bowl XXVVII champions.
The Buccaneers can be recognized by their red, pewter, black, white and orange uniforms and for their iconic skull and sword flag symbol designed to resemble a pirate or buccaneer ship flag. Their mascot is a ship captain known as Captain Fear. The team is currently owned by Malcom Glazer who is also the president of the organization. Under his leadership the Buccaneers have gone on to establish themselves as a team to be contended with in the NFL and have set several records during their time as a team, including numerous NFL defensive streak records. They have also had iconic players such as Michael Spurlock, Matt Bryant, Josh Freeman, Steve Young and Lee Roy Selmon all play for the BUccaneers. These players and many more can be seen in the team’s Ring of Honor area which was added to the Raymond James Stadium in 2009 to pay tribute to some of the most successful athletes to ever play for this organization.
