The Toronto Blue Jays are an expansion franchise that was founded in 1977. The team played their first game on April 7, 1977, against the Chicago White Sox, before a crowd of 44,649. The game is now remembered for the minor snowstorm which began just before the game started. The Jays won 9-5. Doug Ault hit two home runs. After playing 50 games in 1977, the Blue Jays set an attendance record for a first-year expansion team, with an overall attendance of 1,219,551. The team was able to attract 1,701,052 fans by the end of the season. The Jays again had a brilliant start in 1982, when they finished 78-84. Two years later, team had its first winning season in 1983 and became division champions. On July 20, 1984, the Toronto Blue Jays set a team record for runs scored during an inning with eleven in the ninth inning versus the Seattle Mariners.
The team success story does not end here. In 1985, Toronto won their first championship, the first of their five American League East division titles. The team started the 1990 season well and ended finishing in second place. Their greatest success came in the form of back-to-back World Series championships in 1992–93, led by a core group of award-winning All-Star players. They became the first team outside the U.S. to appear in and win a World Series, and the fastest AL expansion team to do so, winning in their 16th year. Since then they have fallen on hard times missing the playoffs every year since 1993. The schedule for the Jays 2013 season is out and tickets are available now at the lowest prices.
