Vancouver Whitecaps FC Tickets
The Canadian professional soccer team from Vancouver, British Columbia, known as the Vancouver Whitecaps are one of the youngest teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) today. After joining the league in 2009, the Whitecaps became the 17th club to join the league; and replaced the USSF Division 2 team that held the same name. They are the third team to share the Whitecaps name. The team; known by many in the area as the Caps or the Blue and White operate under head coach Martin Rennie. They participate in the Western Conference of the MLS and while they have never participated in a playoff, have managed to have one of the most successful freshmen years of any team in the league.
The Vancouver Whitecaps came about when an ownership group in Vancouver was given permission to start the franchise by MLS commissioner Don Garber. However, their first game wasn’t until the 2011 MLS season; where they debuted in their inaugural match against Toronto FC; a game the club won 4-2. The team played most of their games during their first season at Empire Field, until BC Place Stadium was completed in late 2011. BC Place is currently where the team plays their home games.
The Vancouver Whitecaps are owned by four official owners; Greg Kerfoot, Steve Leuczo, Jeff Mallett and Steve Nash. Even before the first official Vancouver Whitecaps game was played, the team broke records by selling their first 5,000 season tickets within 48 hours of becoming available to the public; showing the massive early support for the young team. In their first two seasons they have managed to have some of the highest attendance numbers in their division and form several fan groups.
The current team roster includes many notable players including Jay DeMerit, Joe Canon and John Thorrington. Even with only one full season under their belt, the team has had three head coaches; Teitur Thordarson and Tom Soehn who coached in 2011 and Martin Rennie who took over in 2011 and currently coaches the 2012 squad. The coach, who hails from Scotland, is expected to bring the team a successful second season as they finish up 2012 regular season play.
