Stanford Cardinal Mens Basketball Tickets
The Stanford Cardinal men’s basketball team is a Division I program for Stanford University. The team is located in Stanford, California and plays their home games at the Maples Pavilion. The Maples Pavilion has a capacity of 7,392 people and opened in 1969. The team plays in the Pacific 12 Conference. The team is currently coached by Johnny Dawkins. In Dawkins’ four-year tenure as coach, he has turned a struggling program into a Pac-12 contender. Compiling a record of 75-59, Dawkins led the team to a NIT Championship in 2012.
Since starting the team in 1913, the Cardinal has been consistently fair. In both 1937 and 1938, the Cardinal won the Helms national championship. In 1942, under coach Everett Dean, the team made their first NCAA Tournament appearance, where they eventually won their first and only National Championship. Under Dean, the team went 167-120, with an inability to recapture the success they had pre-war. Mike Montgomery’s arrival in 1986 marked the beginning of a turnaround for the Cardinal. After a long string of coaches with losing records, Montgomery brought the team to their first postseason appearance since their national title in 1988 and made it to the NCAA Tournament the following year. In 1995, Montgomery led the team to ten straight years where they not only made the NCAA Tournament, but also won a game in each of those years. This was highlighted by a trip to the Final Four in 1998. Following Montgomery was Trent Johnson, who went 80-48 in his four year tenure, making the NCAA Tournament three times and leaving after a 28-8 finish and a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
There have been 32 players selected in the NBA Draft, including eleven who have been selected in the first round. Most recently the Lopez twins, Robin and Brook were selected with the 15th and 10th overall picks respectively by the Phoenix Suns and the New Jersey Nets in the 2008 NBA Draft. The most recent Stanford player to be selected was Landry Field in the 2010 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks with the ninth pick in the second round.
Stanford’s biggest rival is fellow Bay Area resident, the University of California, Berkeley. While this rivalry is even more prominent in football, these teams have faced off dozens of times in basketball as well.
