Tennessee Volunteers History
The Tennessee Volunteers are considered as one of the successful teams of National Collegiate Athletic Association. Since their formation, they have given 19 NCAA Tournament appearances and have made it to the National Invitation Tournament 11 times. With talented players always on their roster, they have won nine regular season SEC championships in 1936, 1941, 1943, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 2000 and 2008 respectively. Though they shared championships with another team from the Southeastern conference in 1972, 1977, 1982, and 2000 but they are recognized among the gems of Southeastern Conference. The Volunteers have posted outstanding 54-43 conference tournament record and won 4 championships in the 1936, 1941, 1943, and 1979 respectively. Owing to their tremendous performances, they have produced several successful National Basketball Association players, which also include Allan Houston, Bernard King, Ernie Grunfeld, Dale Ellis, Tobias Harris, Tony White, Ron Slay and Larry Robinson. One of the bright spots of the team came in 2009, when they posted their first ever undefeated season with 14-0. The Tennessee Volunteers play their home games at Thompson-Boling Arena, located on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
