Texas Longhorns Mens Basketball Tickets
The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team is a Division I program for the University of Texas. The team is located in Austin, Texas and plays their home games at the Frank Erwin Center. The Frank Erwin Special Events Center has a capacity of 16,755 people and opened in 1977. The team holds a winning percentage of more than .800 since the opening of the Frank Erwin Center. The team plays in the Big 12 Conference. The team is currently coached by Rick Barnes. In his fourteen seasons as head coach, Barnes has led the team to the NCAA Tournament in every season, including a trip to the Final Four in 2003. Barnes has a record of 333-130 with the team as well as an 18-13 record in postseason play.
The team played its first game in 1906, and since that time, have been one of the premier teams in the country. The team in its early years was one of the best, winning Southwest Conference titles in 1915, 1916, 1917, and in 1919. The team made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1939, and in their next appearance in 1943, made the Final Four for the first time. The team would return to the Final Four in their next appearance in the tournament in 1947, before not reaching the tournament until 1960. Under coach Abe Lemons, the team compiled a 110-63 record, after achieving early success under Lemons, the team faded into mediocrity. Tom Penders was the next coach who brought any real success to the team as he coached them into the Big 12 Conference to go along with eight NCAA Tournament appearances and a lifetime 208-110 record with the team. The Longhorns have featured 40 players selected in the NBA Draft including fourteen that were selected in the first round. Most recently, Tristan Thompson, Jordan Hamilton, and Cory Joseph were all selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
The Longhorns are in a variety of longstanding rivalry games. Notably, rivalry games against the Oklahoma Sooners, who lead the series 47-32, and the Texas A&M Aggies, where the Longhorns lead 135-85. Over the tenure of Rick Barnes’, Kansas has emerged as the team to beat in the Big 12 alongside the Longhorns, which has led to a variety of great matchups between these two teams. The Baylor Bears are another in-state rival where the competition stiffens for the Longhorns.
