The Book of Mormon is one of the most talked-about and hottest shows that have hit Broadway. It is coming to Chicago on December 11, 2012 and will be at the Bank of America Theatre on Monroe Street for about 12 weeks. The creators of the musical are Trey Park and Matt Stone, who are four-time Emmy Award creators of the “South Park” TV cartoon series. It features a book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez.
The Book of Mormon is the winner of nine Tony Awards, which include Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, Best Direction, Best Featured Actress, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design and Best Orchestrations. It has also received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and received other awards too. There have been many positive reviews about the Broadway musical from John Steward of The Daily Show, the New York Post, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles, by Entertainment Weekly and by several other media outlets. There has also been positive feedback from those of the Mormon faith. The hysterical musical is about two naïve Mormon missionaries who try to help improve an African village by sharing their Mormon faith. It is said to be a one-of-a-kind show that should attract people throughout the Midwest to Chicago. To stage the show the cost is $9 million, and they are expecting to possibly gross about $2 million dollars in sales per week. The show started back in March 2011 after about seven years of development of it. The Book of Mormon has gotten great reviews and received several awards; making it a must-see Broadway show.
