Cirque du Soleil - The Beatles: Love is a show located at the Mirage in Las Vegas paying tribute to the life and music of the Beatles. Cirque du Soleil and The Beatles Apple Corps Ltd. partnered and created Love, which was written and directed by Dominic Champagne and debut in 2006. The various acts consist of a mix of fantasy, acrobatics, dance and music staged to The Beatles music to form a joyous celebration of the 60s by one of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Beatles.
Cirque du Soleil is an entertainment company based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was found in 1984 by Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier. It is named as the contemporary circus, which is a theatrical and character driven approach without animals performing.
It all started when George Harrison and his friend Guy Laliberté discussed the possibility of partnering for a Beatles show. After three years of negotiations between Paul McCartney, Ringo Star and the widows Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono came into an agreement for a show. The show Love is a fictional story based on the music’s lyrics not by actual events. You will see fictitious characters like Sgt. Pepper a central figure, Eleanor Rigby, Lady Madonna and Mr. Kite. Each of the scenes is named after a Beatles song or medley. The cast has about 65 performers from around the world.
The characters of the show include; Doctor Robert as the host of Love, Eleanore Rigby as an English woman, Father McKenzie as a preacher from older times, Kids of Liverpool, Lucy and the Firemen, Nowhere Men, Groupies and much more. You won’t hear any live music as the music was prerecorded Beatles’ music that was re-orchestrated. There were 130 songs used to create 26 musical pieces, and the songs were mixed so the lyrics and instruments would blend into the next song.
