The show opened on Broadway back in October 1961 for over 1,400 performances. The show won seven Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle award and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1962. It is one of only eight musicals to win the Pulitzer since 1918. March 2011, the musical opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette.
