It started when Jerry Seinfield was transferred to Queens College, City University of New York, where he discovered his interest in stand-up comedy after brief stints in college productions. After graduating with a degree in communications and theater, he tried in open-mic night at New York City's Catch a Rising Star. He got an small recurring role on the Benson sitcom as "Frankie", in 1979 but was fired due to his creative differences. But soon in May 1981, he gave a performance at The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which impressed Carson and Jerry started giving regular performances on the show. He released his book Seinlanguage in 1993, which became a number one New York Times bestseller. In 1989, he co-created and co-wrote The Seinfeld Chronicles with Larry David for NBC. It had become the most popular and successful sitcom on American television by his fourth season. When sitcom Seinfeld ended in 1998, returned to stand-up comedy, recording a comedy special titled I'm Telling You for the Last Time. Seinfeld appeared at the National Museum of American History to donate the "Puffy Shirt" he wore in the famous Seinfeld episode on November 18, 2004. He walked the 79th Academy Awards red carpet on February 25, 2007 and presented the award for Best Documentary.
