Wicked is a musical that has hit Broadway, which is the untold story of the witches from OZ. The production has a lot of humor, music and several twists throughout the show. The musical was told from the witches’ perspective from the Land of Oz: Elphaba.
The story is based on the best selling novel, Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which was written by Gregory Maguire. The novel came from The Wizard of Oz film back in1939. The musical was started by Stephen Schwartz who is a composer and lyricist when he discovered Gregory Maguire’s novel and saw its potential. Originally, Wicked premiered at the Curran Theater in San Francisco in 2003 and was an instant hit. Since the showed opened on Broadway October 2003, it has been breaking box office records across the nation. Wicked is the winner of three Tony Awards back in 2004 as well as other awards. It also earned six Drama Desk Awards, received one Grammy Award, received the Laurence Olivier Award and earned six Helpmann Awards.??Since the musical opened back in 2003 at Gershwin Theatre, it has broken the house record twenty times. Each week of the show running, it would gross in excess of $1.6 million making it one of the most lucrative musicals on Broadway.
