Avenue Q Tickets
Avenue Q is a musical about young adults searching for their place in the world while dealing with the issues and anxieties associated with adulthood. It is about the group experiencing their successes and failures with romance and with their careers. The characters realize in the real world that their options are limited.
The music and lyrics were created by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and the book was written by Jeffy Whitty. The show was directed by Jason Moore; it was produced by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Robyn Goodman. The musical is not only with human actors, but also puppets are used along with them.
Originally, Avenue Q started out as a television series, and later at the 2002 National Music Theatre Conference it was developed as a stage production at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in CT. In early 2003, it opened Off Broadway and transferred to Broadway in the summer of 2003. Shortly after, the show won three Tony Awards and had two national tours.
Just because puppets are used in the show, it is definitely not a child-themed production. It is set as a dark yet funny show about the life and situations people get involved in to handle their daily lives. The actors not express their feelings and emotions through their own acting parts, but also through their sidekick puppets. The actors have all had puppeteer experience by working on the Sesame Street show as puppeteers.
Avenue Q has had over 2,500 performances and ranks 21st on the list of the longest running shows in Broadway history. The show ended on Broadway September 2009 and over a month later it reopened at the New World Stages Complex where it continues to play as an Off Broadway production.
The humor of Avenue Q is not intended for children, but is certainly a must see for adults. There have been many positive reviews found online and has had positive media reviews about the show. The show has received awards and has received a Grammy nomination. It is a must see production for adults.
