Ghost the Musical is based on the 1990 romantic drama film that now has made its Broadway debut. Ghost is a story about a timeless fantasy and about the power of love. The story is about a couple by the names of Sam and Molly who are attacked during a mugging one night as they return home. Unfortunately, Sam is shot and ends up dying. He ends up being stuck between the real world and the spiritual world not wanting to leave Molly behind, who is in danger. Sam seeks the help of a phony psychic to help protect Molly from danger.
The 1990 motion picture starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The movie won two Oscars, including the award for Best Original Screenplay. Bruce Rubin is the screenplay writer for Ghost and is behind the musical adaptation of the movie.
March 2011, Ghost the Musical premiered in Manchester, England before moving to the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End three months later. March 2012, the show moved to the Lunt-Fontanne Theater with the main actors, Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy. The show is due to open about the third week of April 2012.
The story is a touching, tragic love story and at points it seems it is far-fetched. Ghost is no doubt a truly compelling performance, including some funny scenes by the eccentric psychic who comes to their aid.
Sam trapped in the real world feels compelled to stay with Molly fearing she may be in danger by the same attacker. He realizes he needs to find a way to communicate with her and finds it with the phony psychic.
Ghost the Musical is about love and the way in which it shapes us in this real life and the next. The drama and suspense gets packed together with incredible stage effects and hallucinations. The entire show turns out to be fantastic entertainment with a meaningful experience. The illusions and tricks during the performance leaves you wondering how all the life and death scenes come together on the stage. It is a love story appropriate for the entire family to enjoy.
