Madison Square Garden Tickets
The multi-purpose indoor arena, known as Madison Square Garden, or the Garden, is one of the most famous concert venues in all of New York City. This arena, can be found in Manhattan right along 8th Avenue on top of Pennsylvania Station. The arena is the longest active major sporting facility in the greater New York City metropolitan area. It first opened in February of 1968, and since its inception has been known as one of the most popular and busiest venues in the world. Currently, Madison Square Garden holds the title as the third busiest music arena in the world, when taking ticket sales into consideration.
In addition to the many musical acts that have performed at the arena, Madison Square Garden also hosts home games for the New York NBA team the New York Knicks and the NHL team the New York Rangers. At the beginning of the 2010 NHL season, Madison Square Garden was given the title of oldest arena in the NHL. At the beginning of the 2010-2011 NBA season, Madison Square Garden became the second oldest arena in the NBA.
Overall, the arena hosts well over 300 events every year, which not only include NBA and NHL games but also annual appearances such as WNBA games, the Big East Men’s Basketball Conference Tournament, the Ringling Brother and Barnum and Bailey Circus, the NBA Draft, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and more regular events. This does not include the other events held at Madison Square Garden, such as the famous professional boxing matches, concerts by artists like Billy Joel, Michael Jackson and Elton John and the Grammy and Latin Grammy Award ceremonies.
Although different renovations have been made to the Madison Square Garden arena to change the overall seating capacity, the current seating capacity for different events has remained unchanged since 1991. Currently, hockey games can hold 18,200, basketball games 19,763, center stage concerts can hold 20,000 while end stage concerts can have 19,522 fans. There are six ascending levels of seats in the arena filled with seats designed for easy viewing. With so many different events and large shows being held at Madison Square Garden it is easy to see why the arena is not only one of the largest in the country but one of the most popular as well.
