Reliant Stadium can be found in the heart of Houston, Texas and is a massive multi-purpose stadium known mostly for being the home of the NFL’s Houston Texas. This stadium is more than 1,900,000 square feet in size and unlike many professional football arenas in the league, it features a natural grass playing surface. In addition to its massive square footage this larger than life stadium also features a seating capacity of 71,054 fans during most sporting events. This stadium is part of a family of venus that make of the city’s reliant park, however the stadium is seen by many as the crown jewel of the park due to its massive size.
When it was first constructed in 2000, the stadium broke records not only for its size and its cost but for being the first facility in the NFL to have a retractable roof. The stadium took two years to construct and when it opened in 2002, fans from all over the city gathered to the stadium to see some of the town’s biggest events. In addition to being the home of the Houston Texans, many other notable sporting events have been held at this stadium as well. Annually, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo comes to Reliant Stadium to put on several performances, this show and rodeo is one of the biggest in the state of Texas and is known for bringing in fans from all over the state and for selling out quickly.
This stadium has also hosted many international soccer matches for the USA National Soccer Team. It was hosted events such as WrestleMania and was the home of Super Bowl XXXVIII. It was also home to the 2011 NCAA FInal Four and slated to host the 2016 Final Four as well. There has been some reconstruction to the stadium in the past few years particularly after Hurricane IKe damaged the property. However, with a few fixes the stadium to this day is restored just as it was prior to the damage. With the newly reinforced structure of the stadium, fans from the city of Houston and all around the state of Texas can continue to enjoy the state of the art features and massive size of this true Texas stadium.
