The Shoreline Amphitheater is an outdoor amphitheater know for being able to hold some of the biggest crowds for all types of musical events. Found in Mountain View, California near the San Francisco Bay Area, the Shoreline Amphitheater mixes both reserved seating and general lawn admission seating around the venue to allow for a maximum capacity of 22,500 guests at a time. During big events, the theater’s parking lot can also be used to bring the total capacity of the venue near the 30,000 mark. The Shoreline Amphitheater is typically open from April to October and will hold around 30 or more major events every summer. The concert venue is also home to many local fundraisers that help promote the local community.
The Shoreline Amphitheater first debuted in the mid 1980’s and was part brainchild of the legendary Bill Graham but is now owned by Live Nation. The original concept of the Shoreline Amphitheater which debuted during the summer of 1986 was inspired by The Grateful Dead, who were supposed to christen the theatre. However, the theatre got off to a rough start when The Grateful Dead canceled the performance due to Jerry Garcia’s coma. Fortunately, business at the Shoreline Amphitheater began to pick up and the arena quickly became a popular venue for musical acts of all types.
The outdoor theater has hosted a number of big music festivals such as The Mayhem Festival, Lilith Fair, Ozzfest, Lollapalooza, and the Vans Warped Tour. Many bands have also added a stop to the Shoreline Amphitheater to their nation-wide tours and the venue has seen performances from bands such as Florence and the Machine, Furthur, Radio Head, No Doubt, Tim McGraw, Green Day and more . The Dave Matthews Band even recorded one of their live albums at the theatre. The theatre is known by many not only for bringing in a number of big name events but for its beautiful mountain surroundings that have also made this venue one of the most beautiful in the world.
