Commonly known simply as “Mile High” the Sports Authority Field at Mile High is a multi-purpose stadium located in Denver, Colorado. In 2001, this stadium was constructed to replace the Mile High Stadium and although it was identically sized, the stadium has been praised for bringing in more commercial action. Although it is used for a number of different purposes, the stadium is known mostly for being the home of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. For many years the new stadium was known as Invesco Field at Mile High until Sports Authority bought the naming rights to the stadium in 2011.
While the stadium brought a great deal of attention to those living in Denver it also marked the completion of the city-wide attempt to upgrade the current Denver sporting program. In addition the completion of the new mile high stadium, Denver has also added the Pepsi Center and Coors Field around this time. In addition to being the home of the Denver Broncos, the stadium also holds the home games of the city’s Major League Lacrosse team, the Denver Outlaws. This stadium has also hosted many of the in state rivalry college football games between the University of Colorado at Boulder and Colorado State University.
Sports Authority Field At Mile High may be primarily known for its football games but it has also hosted numerous big name concerts as well and has hosted bands such as U2, Metallica, the Eagles and more. Although Metallica performed to a record breaking 100,000 fans during their concert performance, most concerts held at the venue will hold up to 50,000 fans. For football events, the maximum capacity of Sports Authority Field At Mile High is around 76,125 fans. The stadium not only hosts events such as these but has also played host to presidential speeches and NFL playoff games as well.
This arena also features the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame; a hall of fame type structure designed to honor and recognize some of the most successful professional football players to ever wear a Denver Broncos uniform. This unique area of the stadium is one that fans and lovers of the sport enjoy coming to in order to see the many famous athletes that have called Denver their home.
