Since in first opened in 1996, the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia has been known asa being the home of several of the city’s most notable events. The center was first created to replace the Spectrum of Philadelphia which was the previous home of the Philadelphia Flyers, the 76ers and the Wings. The new Wells Fargo Center was constructed on the former site of the famous John F. Kennedy Stadium. Today it is the home arena of several of the city’s biggest sports teams including the NFL team the Philadelphia Flyers the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League and the Arena Football Team the Philadelphia Soul.
Officially for NBA and NCAA basketball games the arena can old 20,318 seated guests. When the Wells Fargo Center is used for NHL games and for lacrosse games it can hold around 19,500. The Wells Fargo Center also features 126 luxury suites and 1,880 club box seats in addition to its other clubs and restaurants that have made this arena known as being one of the most luxurious in professional sports today. During its history, the Wells Fargo Center has set several records, including the record for highest attendance for any indoor hockey game in Pennsylvania when it hosted Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010. This game pitted the Philadelphia Flyers against the Chicago Blackhawks in a game that brought in 20,327. A similar record was set in 2006 for Pennsylvania when Villanova University played against the University of Connecticut in the dome to a crowd of 20,859 fans.
While many in the city of Philadelphia know the Wells Fargo Center as being a meccas of great sports moments as it is the home to several professional sports teams, and is also used part time by Villanova University; the venue is also hosted several notable concerts. The Wells Fargo Center has hosted massive crowds for big namer performers such as Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis and Billy Joel in an arena filled with tens of thousands of screaming fans all gathered in this notable and multi-faceted Philadelphia entertainment center.
