The American Airlines Center is one of the most popular closed in stadiums in professional sports today. Located in downtown Dallas, Texas the amphitheater has hosted a number of big events since it was first built in 2001. The multi-purpose arena was designed to hold a number of events for Dallas residents and thanks to its convenient location near Victory Park, it is known now as being at the heart of the city and a key feature in the Dallas city skyline.
While numerous professional events have traveled to the American Airlines Center, it is known by many around the country simply for being the home of the professional NBA basketball team the Dallas Mavericks as well as the professional NHL hockey team the Dallas Stars. For more than 10 years, both teams have called the American Airlines Center homes and sold out numerous home games to crowds of adoring fans. The center was actually constructed with both teams in mind and was created to replace the former Reunion Arena that both teams played at.
When the arena is used for home Dallas Mavericks basketball games it can hold around 19,200 fans or up to 21,146 fans with standing room. When it is being used for ice hockey events for the Dallas Stars it can hold 18,532 fans or up to 18,584 fans with standing room. The center is also known for holding a number of big name concerts as well and during these concert performances it can typically hold around 21,000 fans. Inside the arena, fans can find numerous fan-centered amenities, concessions and large big screen televisions and screens for game recaps.
However, the outside of the building also has its own features as well. The exterior of the building actually features its own high-definition video displays. These can be viewed from the area surrounding the center known as the AT&T Victory Plaza, the same plaza that was used to host the 2011 Dallas Mavericks NBA Championship victory party. These large screens are not only used on game night to recap events but during the week for other outdoor events and movie showings; truly making the American Airlines Center a key component and gather space in the city of Dallas.
