Candlestick Park Tickets
Candlestick Park is located in San Francisco, California and is known by many simply as “The Stick” or “Candlestick.” This park can be found in the Bayview Heights area and was designed to be a multi-purpose outdoor sports and entertainment arena. While now the arena hosts a number of different events; it was originally created to be the home of the San Francisco Giants, the city’s MLB team who played in the stadium for 40 years until moving in 2000. However, now, the park is the home field of the San Francisco 49ers, the city’s professional football team who has called the historic stadium home since 1971.
The stadium first broke ground in 1958, making it one of the oldest stadiums in professional sports today, especially for an NFL team. This is not the only thing that makes Candlestick Park such a unique venue in professional sports. Located right on the bay, the stadium is known for having strong winds often swirling into the stadium, making uninterrupted play difficult. The surface of the field within Candlestick Park is also a major point of discussion for those who play on this field. The grass on the field is actually natural bluegrass instead of traditional artificial turf which many stadiums use today. Although the stadium did agree to use artificial turf for 9 seasons in the 1970s they still use the bluegrass turf today.
The park is owned and operated by The City and County of San Francisco. While there have been a number of different names to the stadium it has been known as Candlestick Park, the field’s original name from 1960, for most of its time as an arena. Although it is one of the oldest parks in the NFL today, the age of the stadium has not limited the seating capacity for NFL events. To date the stadium can hold 69,732 fans for NFL games, meaning there are many newer stadiums with much lower seating capacities in the league. For more than 50 years, Candlestick Park has had a home in the center of San Francisco as fans from all over the area flock to the park to enjoy games in one of the most historically significant stadiums in professional sports today.
