Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Dodger Stadium has been the home of the city’s MLB baseball team since it first opened on April 10, 1962. The stadium is one of the largest in professional stadiums today and can hold 56,000 fans at maximum capacity, this capacity has never changed as long as the field has been open. In fact, it is the largest baseball ballpark in the world based on seating capacity. It is also one of the oldest. Today, the Dodgers Stadium is the third oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. However, there is more than that to this massive stadium, especially for long time fans of the Dodgers who have been coming to the stadium for decades to see this team play.
The stadium, which many still refer to as Chavez Ravine Stadium, has been a staple in the city for many years. During this time, the world’s largest baseball stadium has hosted All Star Games, World Series Games and the finals and semifinals of the World Baseball Classic. During the 1984 Summer Olympics the stadium also hosted exhibition baseball games as well. However, Dodger Stadium not only hosts numerous MLB and baseball games but other events as well.
The Beatles actually played their second to last concert ever in the stadium in 1966. Other big bands such as The Jacksons, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones have also done liver performances at Dodger Stadium as well. When it is not in use for the MLB season, concerts and events such as monster truck shows are often held in the stadium. However, for Los Angeles residents and fans of the Dodgers from all over the country; Dodger Stadium will always be known as the home of this MLB baseball team. To this date it is not only one of the biggest and oldest stadiums but one of only eleven major league parks without a corporate-sponsored name; a tradition that Dodger Stadium is looking to keep alive. In 2012 the stadium celebrated its fiftieth year as a stadium and looks to enter the next 50 years with the same tradition of greatness behind its name.
