Designed to be a premier and multi-faceted entertainment complex, the Scottrade Center is one of the most unique venues of its kind. Located in the heart of downtown St. Louis, this arena is not only one of the finest sports and entertainment complexes in the country but a key staple in the St. Louis city makeup. This venue is known for its state of the art facilities and its ultra contemporary design which boasts a 12-story glass and concrete structure.
The Scottrade Center is known for bringing in some of the biggest acts in music to the city, as well as family shows, ice shows and sporting events. The frequent programming in the arena typically brings about 175 different events to St. Louis every year and typically brings nearly 2 million guests to downtown St. Louis annually. This popularity has caused the Scottrade Center to be ranked as one of the top arenas in the country around the nation. The venue has also been the home to numerous college and lower level professional sporting teams, including the St. Louis University Billikens who played in the venue until 2008.
However, for those who live in the city of St. Louis this arena is known mostly as being the home of the St. Louis Blues; the city’s thriving and wildly popular NHL professional hockey team. In fact, the Scottrade Center was created specifically to fit the needs of the St. Louis Blues. When the then owner of the St. Louis Blues contemplated relocating the team in 1985 the idea for a large venue for the team was first developed. Eventually with the support of city officials the site for the now Scottrade Center was secured in 1991, and in 1994 the hockey arena opened under the name of the Kiel Center. In 2006, the naming rights for the builder were sold to St. Louis based online brokering company, Scottrade.
Currently the Scottrade Center can hold 19,150 fans seated for their home St. Louis Blues games. For college basketball events held at the arena, the capacity in 21,000. Most concerts vary depending on the individual performance but are around 20,000 in capacity for those looking to see their favorite performers live in one of the midwest’s top rated concert arenas.
