Chicago’s Soldier Field, previously known as the Municipal Grant Park Stadium is one of the most famous stadiums in the Windy City. Located right on Lake Shore Driver in downtown Chicago, it offers city residents a convenient location and easy access for all events. The location even has a nearby ‘L’ station allowing for easy public access for city residents. The stadium serves as home to the Chicago Bears, the professional National Football League team in Chicago.
The current stadium was rebuilt and reopened to the public in 2003. Despite its size when compared to other venues in the greater Chicago area, Soldier Field is actually the smallest stadium in the NFL today. The current arrangement of Soldier Field hosts 61,500 fans. Soldier Field has received much recognition for the new designs but in place in the 2003 rebuild, as the new styling of the arena is extremely modern for a football arena and is often referred to as the city’s spaceship. Outside of the arena, you will find the old roman pillars that pay homage to the arena’s original design as well as statues and monuments that honor the United States military.
Even though Soldier Field is most famous for hosting Chicago Bears games and other major NFL events, these are not the only events held at the Chicago stadium. Numerous outdoor concerts for big bands like The Eagles, Gretchen Wilson and Bon Jovi have been held at Soldier Field, although they often occur when the Chicago Bears are not using the field as to not damage the turf for games. Several international futbol games have also been held at Soldier Field, including the 1994 Fifa World Cup. The field also has areas for private events, hosts festivals on its grounds, and is a popular meeting destination for several of the city’s outdoor runs and walks.
Soldier Field is also a popular tourist attraction in the offseason for those who want to learn of the history of the stadium dating back before its redesigns, which dates back to 1924, when the arena held its first football game. No matter what type of event visitors are looking to attend at Soldier Field, access to the arena is easy and there are several hotels located nearby that offer specials for those attending Soldier Field events.
