Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Great American Ball Park is known mostly for being the home of the Cincinnati Reds the city’s MLB baseball team. The ball park originally opened in 2003 and was designed to replace the Riverfront Stadium in downtown; a stadium that had been the teams for decades. After years of planning the new stadium officially broke ground in 2000 and after three years of waiting fans were rewarded with the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The ball park is now seen as a staple in the city and one of the most significant constructions in the entire area. Currently the stadium holds 42,319 fans at each and every home game.
This stadium is not only known for being the home field of the Cincinnati Reds and for its signature red accents throughout but for truly paying homage to the sport of baseball. There is a sign with the Joe Nuxhall phrase “rounding third and heading for home,” on the third base side of the stadium and statues of players like Ernie Lombardi, Frank Robinson and Ted Kluszewski playing an imaginary game of baseball in front of the stadium. The Great American Ball Park is also located right next to the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.
In addition to these baseball centered features, there are numerous additions in and around the park that make the stadium a favorite among fans and players alike. There is a glass encased restaurant on the third level of the stadium that is known for serving upscale food while providing views of both the field and the river. This restaurant known as the Riverfront Club is one of the many luxury features added to the park to truly make it the “greatest” American park in the league. Across from the park fans can also find the Rose Garden. This beautiful garden not only adds landscaping to the area but was designed to symbolize Pete Rose’s record-breaking 4,192nd hit with the reds. With features such as this and state-of-the art additions to the stadium there is no denying that this stadium is truly a Great American Ball Park.
