Verizon Center Tickets
While Verizon has sponsored several arenas and concert venues around the country, all with similar names; there is only one “Verizon Center.” This entertainment arena, formerly known as the MCI Center can be found in downtown Washington D.C. Although it is officially under the Verizon name, many around the city simply refer to this multi-purpose arena as the “Phone Booth” because of its various sponsorships from different phone companies. The center is also one of the most widely praised arenas in professional sports today. This is mainly because of its guest-friendly design and its convenient location on top of the Gallery Place rapid transit station of the Washington Metro. It is located in the Chinatown area of the city.
The current Verizon Center is actually home to the professional NBA basketball team the Washington Wizards as well as the professional NHL hockey team the Washington Capitals. It is also the home of the Washington Mystics; the WNBA team and the Georgetown University men’s basketball team as well. All of these sports teams are able to call the center home and pack thousands of fans into the arena thanks to its massive size. For hockey events the arena can hold more than 18,500 fans and for basketball events it can hold 20,282 fans.
During its history, which began when the now Verizon Center opened its doors in 1997, the arena has not only hosted home games of its numerous sporting teams, but has also held several other notable events as well. The Stanley Cup Finals has been held at the arena as well as numerous rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The NBA and WNBA All-Star Games have been hosted at the Verizon Center different years and the arena has hosted numerous big name concert events. Performers such as the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonce have all performed in front on thousands of fans at sold out arenas in the Verizon Center. Whether fans are going to see one of their favorite performers or a home game from their favorite D.C. team they can expect as massive crowd at this expansive Verizon Center arena.
